Animagi!

Which animal would you compare yourself to and why?

I love animals, all kinds and shapes and sizes and I appreciate them for various traits attributed to them. A generic search for animal symbolism led me to this link where they have listed a series of animals and their traits. Let me list out my favourites and my reasoning on how they fit me, and you can help me decide which would suit me best.

Horse: mustangs/ unicorns

Main characteristics: Horses are known for their strength, power, stamina, freedom, intellect and loyalty. The mystical unicorn is known as a symbol for grace, purity, virtue, integrity and freedom.

Why me: height and freedom are probably the only traits I may share with a horse and just through this association I would love to be a unicorn. For me, horses conjure the visual of running free along the beach. The closest I would come to this visual would be sitting under an umbrella with an unbrella’ed glass containing a coloured potion!

Eagle or hawk

Main characteristics: Eagles represent honesty, truth, magnificence, strength, courage, vitality, power and freedom; Hawks represent change, clarity, protection, grace and power. Eagles are often associated with death and death related deities while hawks are known for their intuition and inner wisdom.

Why me: strength, vitality and vision (read this as no glasses, because I’m definitely no clairvoyant) are the traits I often associate for myself. But, if I were honest, maybe some part of sight, and freedom.

Tiger

Main characteristics: the king of beasts, tigers are known for their ferocity, power, strength, courage, determination and anger. They symbolise protection, strength and unpredictability in Indian and Chinese cultures. Their strength combined with their unpredictability make them fearsome.

Why me: Anger and unpredictability are the traits I relate to here.

Wolf

Main characteristics: Wolves are known for their sharp intelligence, self reliance, and appetite for freedom. They represent perseverance, stability, intuition, loyalty, success, understanding, and good communication, which makes them accomplished hunters.

Why me: perseverance and self reliance helps me be the best I can in any situation. But the mythical werewolves often captured my imagination and the only trait I share with them would be the lunar inflicted transformation, from reasonable woman to unreasonable shrew!

Dog

Main characteristics: they are known as shapeshifters in Celtic myths but are really, just vigilant, faithful and wise friends to mankind. They have often been depicted to represent qualities like loyalty, faithfulness, bravery, protection and unconditional love.

Why me: A healthy combination of loyal and energetic, I often feel that I’m spending half my time chasing my tail around in circles or just sitting down recuperating after the dizzy spinning.

Owl

Main characteristics: Owls represent wisdom, patience, solitude, deep connection, mystery and intuitive knowledge. They are often perceived as bad luck or omens of death. In some cultures they also symbolise wealth, fortune, prosperity and good luck. Their stealth makes them efficient hunters and apex predators.

Why me: I am wise and mysterious like the owl, but honestly, I think the similarity stops with sleeping during the day!

Height and freedom of the horse, courage and unpredictability of the tiger, the energy and loyalty of the dog, good communication and perseverance of the wolves, strength and vision of the eagles or hawks, mystery and wisdom of the owls are the traits I hope I share with these animals. A combination of a few of these traits truly relevant to me would be height of the horse, unpredictability of the tiger, loyalty of the dog, perseverance of the wolves, sight of the eagles or hawks and the mystery of owls are the traits I share.

And an AI representation of these animals in one being would be my Animagi, if I were not a muggle!
